Competitions

On this page we are going to share our competitions with you all. 2020 was a tough year, and our great plans all suffered from the wrath of this terrible pandemic.

We will however rise again. To echo the Munster Rugby motto, “To the brave and the faithful, nothing is impossible.”

Competition 2020 – The year that wasn’t.

2nd Annual Short Story Competition.

We were delighted to be able to launch the 2nd Annual Cobh Readers and Writers’ Short Story Competition this year.

This year’s theme is ‘A Million Miles Away’.

Closing date:
Friday 13th March.
Entry is FREE and the strict rules are below.

The rules for entry are:
Theme: ‘A Million Miles Away.’
1. Email entries to readersandwritersfestivalcobh@gmail.com
2. No more that one entry per writer.
3. Word count 3000. Doubled spaced, Times New Roman, Size 12.
4. Include a short 3rd person author bio, not more than 120 words.
5. Judging will be on anonymised entries.
6. The story must not have been published before in any format.
8. Winners will be invited to the festival reading event.

Adult Competition:
Prizes are as follows.
1st Prize €150, while 2nd/3rd Prize €100
(All prizes are in Vouchers, and all placed writers’ work will be published in next year’s Collection of Works.)

Children’s/Youth Competiton:
We wish to invite and encourage young writers to enter our festivals Short Story & Poetry competition.

Categories this year:
Seniors – 4th/5th/6th Year
Juniors – 1st/2nd/3rd Year
Primary – 4th/5th/6th Class

Important Note:
Cobh based school entries will be collected as per arrangements. All others MUST be emailed to readersandwritersfestivalcobh@gmail.com


2nd Annual Poetry Competition.

We are delighted to announce that the 2nd Annual Cobh Readers and Writers Poetry Competition is now open for entry.

We hope to build on the huge success of last years event which saw entries from across the globe, so we are really looking forward to another excellent competition.

This years theme is ‘A Million Miles Away’, and please remember that a strong connection to the theme is important.

Great prizes for the top Adult (18+) and Youth (12-18) poets.

The winning poems and the ten highly commended poems will be published in the festival anthology, along with stories from the soon to be announced short story competition.

Closing date:
Friday 13th March.

3. Attached as word doc only, (Poem Title_Poet Name).
4. No more than 40 lines, Single spaced, Times New Roman, Size 12.
5. Include a short 3rd person bio in email, not more than 120 words.
6. Judging will be on anonymised entries.
7. Must not have been published before in any format, in print or online.
8. Winners will be invited to the festival poetry event on Friday 24th April.

Adult (18+) Category Prize: €100
Youth (12-18) Category Prize: €100
(All prizes are in Vouchers, and all winning poets, and the highly commended entires will be published in next year’s Collection of Works.)
